Mayweather has them where he wants them
Mississippi Fight Sports Examiner | Brad Cooney
Will the big fight between Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather be in Las Vegas? Will it be in Dallas? Will it be in New Orleans? Will it be in Los Angeles? As of right now, it's still undecided. One things is clear though, and that is that Floyd Mayweather Jr holds the cards. Manny Pacquiao could care less where the fight is, he'll fight in a neighborhood backyard for all he cares. However, Floyd Mayweather wants this fight to be in Las Vegas, right on his turf.
Bob Arum hit the venue snag and punted, and handed off the negotiations. Here's the problem, Mayweather wants to fight in Vegas. Arum allegedly guaranteed both fighters 25 million dollars each. Arum has to find a venue that will absorb some of that cost. Arum needs to come up with 50 million dollars to pay the purse money, so he naturally wants to put the fight on at whichever venue forks up the biggest bid. Right now, Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones has forked up the biggest bid, an alleged 25 million dollars.
Mayweather doesn't want to fight in Texas, he wants to fight in Las Vegas. So who holds the cards? Floyd Mayweather holds the cards. Mayweather as of so far isn't budging, so how do the negotiators convince him to fight outside of Vegas? I am guessing the phones at the MGM in Las Vegas are banging off the hook, the phone in Jerry Jones office is banging off of the hook, and Golden Boy's Richard Schaefer's phone is banging off of the hook.
This fight gets done when Mayweather says it gets done, and that's simply the bottom line here. It all depends on him. How stubborn will he be? Will the powers that be give Mayweather a larger sum of the money to fight outside of Vegas? Will there be some covert side deals that will pry Mayweather from Vegas? Perhaps so.
